CTFO by KJ 28 January 2008

So I was closing out a 3 hour work out session a ICON, and was about to drag myself to home, shower, and sleep when K J Noons rolls up.

"What's up? You leaving?"

"No." I reply. 7:45 on the gym timer and clock, "Just getting started." I grin as I throw my equipment bag back into the holding bin.

We train.

I met KJ a few months ago we he came back to Hawaii, to visit friends and family. I had the opportunity to check out his new belt, and get his thoughts on his past and future for the people in mmahawaii.com land.

This week/weekend was different, as he a cheap ticket and fate found us club hopping and mingling in Waikiki. Man it must suck to be his or Jack Shield's "wing man," as even the bouncers of clubs were I'm VIP at forgot my VIP status... But I digress, I'm not a hater.

Not wanting to get my face caved in anymore that day, KJ and I trained BJJ. I know I have a lot of learning to do on the ground, as even an "out of shape" KJ was able to earn the tap, and nearly two by gogoplata!

I'm not sure how Nick Diaz will even contend against him in a rematch. KJ's striking is on another level. I think, no, I know his BJJ is under-rated.

KJ is a great training partner and an even better teacher, as he isn't afraid to share his knowledge, and offer up himself to prove or reprove a BJJ technique. If you happen to be in San Diego, and you get the chance to roll/train with KJ a City Boxing, don't pass it up.

Life is can be so amazing. I got the call from my boys on the HG the Bas "El Guapo" Rutten was going to be on Oahu, and I was going to the opportunity to hang with and interview him for MMAHawaii.com.

I first discoverd Bas during a recent deployment to the middle east. There bored and with my Amazon Visa itching to be used, I purchased all five volumes of the PrideFC Legacy DVD sets. It took until about disc three and I "got" Bas' color commentary. While not a T.U.F. noob by any reason I did miss quite a few of the early UFC's and two seasons on T.U.F., do to military deployment.

Bas is easliy likeable. He oozes charm, and can still pack a mean finger flick if he happens to challenge you in "The Game." He has a geniune love for life, and he doesn't hesitate to share his struggles and the people who helped him through it.

The next thing I noticed after his personality, was his physical presence. Bas looks and moves as if he can still go in the cage. Have to cut this short... Got to get back to work.
